Lan Nguyen Stanley's Solo Exhibition: A Lexicon of her Past

Hauntingly serene  marks the signature canvases of  Lan Nguyen, better known as Lan Nguyen Stanley, a Dubai- based Vietnamese contemporary artist with  an efflorescence of her genius in  modern art. Spirituality echoed on her paintings on acrylic and oil media and Nguyen’s deep rooted past reflected her influences from the mystical Hanoi in Vietnam to Western familiarity that blended in harmony from palette to her subjects.

“I've learnt to see more value in my heritage and to appreciate it as part of my life and my art work," says the artist.

Her pivotal lexica of rural  Vietnam explained the vibrancy of her color choices. Nguyen has lived and exhibited her works in a number of places, including the US, London, Hong Kong and now, in Dubai. She began painting when she was 12 and won a scholarship to the Fine Arts University of Hanoi, where she specialized in graphic arts.

Opening her solo exhibition at Al Serkal, the artist with contemplative character of her oeuvre, displayed soft timid figures and is never been coy about self expression through her art.

Preoccupied by her being the most photographed artist and appeared almost in all glossy magazines, she found ways to return to her first love-painting where she excels a sophisticated form of otherness. Pure abundance of images reminded her collective consciousness that drew aesthetic delights rediscovering Vietnam and herself too.
